The Child Health Clinic at Children's Hospital Colorado partnered with Vroom, a global program of the Bezos Family Foundation. Vroom's mission to equip parents with the tools to create a bright future for their children aligns perfectly with the goals of the providers at the Clinic Health Clinic. Vroom's science-based tips were integrated into the clinic in several ways - a mural in the waiting room, interactive boards in each clinic room and signage in the intake rooms. I worked in collaboration with Vroom experts and Children's Colorado doctors to achieve the goal of making helpful tips accessible to parents throughout their visit and reinforcing positive, healthy parenting and regular well visits.
My clients at the Child Health Clinic were so pleased with the results (several even cried when they saw the final product) that they worked to secure additional grant funding! I then created wall murals and floor decals down the central hallway of the clinic.

Waiting room mural
The headline "Welcome Home" alludes to the idea that the Child Health Clinic is a "medical home" to all its patients. The doctors wanted to communicate the importance of well visits and their support all along the journey of childhood. I illustrated a path symbolizing the journey dotted with families spending time together, various vehicles and buildings. The path ends at an illustration of the Children’s Colorado Health Pavilion where the Child Health clinic resides.

Interactive boards
The intention of the custom boards in each exam room is to continue to share Vroom tips in an interactive way. There is a captive audience waiting for a provider and people are more likely to remember information that they interact with. I reached out to several woodworkers in the Denver metro area and selected Holtz Custom. The functional design was created in collaboration with Dr. Talmi and Aaron Holtzman of Holtz Custom. The tips are printed on a durable paper that slides into the wooden frame so they can be updated periodically and Spanish is on the reverse so it can be flipped over for Spanish-speaking families. The two sliding pieces with the questions and symbols move left and right to reveal one tip at a time.

Intake room signage
Additional custom signage was installed in 7 intake and consultation rooms with empowering messages for healthcare providers to reinforce the importance of brain development in the first five years of life, and to empower them to promote brain-building principles and activities with the families they serve.

Notes from stakeholders
I wanted to wish you a HAPPY OPENING TODAY !!! and send you a huge THANK YOU for all of the hard work that has driven our collaboration so far. I know the work has had its challenges and that we have more work ahead of us with the clinical integration piece, but all aspects of the physical integration piece look AMAZING and I’m so excited to come see the clinic soon!
Shelby Jones, MA, Vroom Program Director
I can't thank you enough for all you've done on the Vroom project for the Child Health Clinic. The work has been frustrating at times, confusing at others, but you have been willing to work through the issues with our partners at the Bezos Family Foundation and on our clinical team, in ADDITION to your incredible graphic design skills, to progress the work moving forward. You're the BEST! Thank you!!
Abby Walbaum, Manager of Prevention Education Outreach, Children's Hospital Colorado
Emma, you have displayed leadership and ownership on the Vroom project for the Child Health Clinic. Your attention to detail and ability to manage a project of that scale has not gone unnoticed. You have shown poise and have been able to divert tension when outside parties did not agree. You have provided excellent creative solutions that have exceeded the expectations of the assignment. Thank you for your leadership, Emma!
